The Morenci Planning Commission will hold a regular meeting on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. at Morenci City Hall, 118 Orchard St., Morenci, MI 49256 to conduct regular business items for the month of March 2023.
​Morenci City Council will hold their regular monthly meeting on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 118 Orchard St. Morenci, MI.
​City Council will hold a special meeting to set 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year goals on Wednesday, March 22. The meeting will begin with tours of City departments and buildings at 6:00 p.m. Discussion will take place at the conclusion of the tour at City Hall at 7:45 p.m.  Goal setting will help establish the FY 23/24 budget and the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan.
Due to Friday's snowfall, there have been delays in brush pick up. The deadline for brush to be placed at the curb is now extended to Monday, March 13​ at noon. Please keep brush away from any obstructions such as guide wires, communication boxes, telephone poles, trees, fire hydrants, and mailboxes.

​Four Morenci City Council positions and that of the mayor expire in November.  Candidates have until April 25 to file a petition at City Hall.  The terms of Mayor Sean Seger and Councilors Jerome Bussell, Jeff Lampson, and Diane Molitierno expire this year.  There is also one vacant seat due to the resignation of Sandra Emmons.  Council is expected to appoint a new member to fill the vacancy at the March 13 meeting.  That person will serve only through the November election.  Mayor Seger has decided not to seek another term in office.  Candidates must have had residency in the City for at least one year prior to the November election.  Nominating petitions must have the signatures of at least 25 registered voters in the City.  Petitions are available at City Hall.

​In December 2021, City Council authorized the City Administrator to ratify a new refuse contract with Modern Waste Systems, Inc, the sole company who submitted a bid for refuse service at that time. The contract began February 1, 2022 and continues through February 1, 2027 and includes a rate increase each year of the contract. The City is beginning the second year, which includes a $0.69 increase per unit. The current refuse rate is $14.75 per month per unit and the new refuse rate is $15.44 per month per unit.
The City of Morenci, through its contractor Borck's Outdoor Services, will conduct a one-time storm damage brush pick up. Tree limbs and brush must be placed to the curb no later than Saturday, March 4th at 3:00 p.m. Branches must be no more than six inches in diameter and six feet long. City of Morenci curbside brush pick up rules and regulations apply.
The City of Morenci Downtown Development Authority will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall Offices, located at 118 Orchard St. Morenci, MI 49256.
Consumers Energy continues to work on restoring power to the City of Morenci. According to their website, restoration is estimated for Sunday, February 26 or Monday, February 27, depending on your location in town. Please visit the Consumers Energy Outage Center for the most up-to-date information: https://www.consumersenergy.com/outages/outage-center  City of Morenci DPW and Fire Department crews have cleared trees and branches from City streets. If a street tree falls onto private property, the City will remove it. If you have a blocked street or fallen tree to report, please call (517)759-0004. We are exploring options for a citywide brush pick up. In the meantime, residents are welcome to drop off brush behind the DPW facility located at 597 W. Chestnut St. (north of Wakefield Park). As a reminder, trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. It is advised to contact your insurance carrier for any property damage incurred from the ice storm.  Warming centers are currently available in Adrian at The Salvation Army, (217 W. Church St) and in Hudson at Sacred Heart Church (207 S. Market St) and Wesleyan Church (229 Hill St). We will be identifying other local facilities as resources become available. Ohio and portions of Adrian have power for essential food and fuel needs. ​The City of Morenci is seeking applicants for a vacant seat on City Council. The appointed member will serve a term that ends at the time of the next City election in November 2023.
