Looking for a fun and memorable way to spend your Labor Day morning without traveling far? The 32nd Annual Silver Creek Bridge Walk kicks off at 11 a.m. Monday, September 7, on the historic truss bridge at the southern edge of Morenci. Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Morenci, the event offers a 25-second stroll across Michigan’s southernmost bridge as a lighthearted alternative to the five-mile Mackinac Bridge Walk up north.
This year, Kiwanis is partnering with Morenci American Legion Post 368 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The morning will feature patriotic trivia and prizes, community speakers, the traditional walk across the 81-foot pedestrian bridge, and a free hot dog lunch provided by the Kiwanis Club.
Community members, representatives of local organizations, and elected officials are invited to participate in the open mic. Speakers may sign up at the event, and remarks are limited to one minute, short and sweet, just like the bridge walk.
Immediately following the walk, the Kiwanis Club will hold its Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser Raffle. Only 150 golf balls will be sold for $20 each. The three winning golf balls will receive cash prizes of $500 for first place, $250 for second place, and $100 for third place. Participants do not need to be present to win, and all proceeds support Kiwanis of Morenci’s mission to serve youth in the community.
