Cemetery Preservation Workshop. Oak Grove Cemetery June 6, 10am-1pm

Stair District Library offers a unique, hands-on opportunity to care for one of the Morenci community’s most meaningful historic spaces on June 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery for a Cemetery Preservation Workshop led by Dr. Thomas Henthorn and students from the University of Michigan–Flint. Participants will learn proper preservation-minded techniques for cleaning historic gravestones using methods that protect these fragile and irreplaceable markers.

The workshop is designed for anyone interested in local history, preservation, or community stewardship. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and take part.

Dr. Henthorn serves as the Wyatt Endowed Professor of Public History and directs the Preservation Studies Minor at the University of Michigan–Flint. Through partnerships like this one, he and his students work with communities across Michigan to support the long-term care of historic cemeteries.
