At the January 13 City Council meeting, the City of Morenci approved the hiring of Officer Logan Edmonson as the City’s new part-time Code & Compliance Officer. This role, which includes a limited number of scheduled hours each month, was created as part of the Council’s 1-Year Goals to improve enforcement of City Ordinances and support a clean, safe, and welcoming community for all residents. The position includes a limited number of hours scheduled on a bi-weekly basis and was developed to address violations of the Morenci Code of Ordinances (Chapters 1 through 22, excluding those handled by zoning, building, or electrical inspectors).

As the summer season approaches, residents are reminded to stay aware of several frequent ordinance issues:

• Grass or weeds exceeding 8 inches in height

• Refuse containers placed curbside before 7:00 AM on the day prior to collection or left at the curb beyond 7:00 AM the day following collection

• Accumulated garbage or debris on private property

• Storage of vehicles that are unregistered or not operational

• Harboring stray cats

• Dogs not properly restrained or allowed to roam freely

• Parking vehicles in front yards or on surfaces not intended for parking
